Seabourn Celebrates Float Out of Seabourn Ovation Cruise Ship

Seabourn celebrated the float out of its newest Ultra Luxury cruise ship, Seabourn Ovation, today with a traditional coin and launch ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri, Italy.

At the float out ceremony, which marks the first time a new-build touches water, Jan Stearman played the role of madrina, cutting the cord to allow water to fill Ovation’s building dock. Stearman was chosen for the honor because she’s Seabourn’s longest-serving female crew member, a cruise director who has worked for the company for 22 years. Also as part of the event, Seabourn Ovation’s captain, Stig Betten, presided over the welding of two commemorative gold coins to the ship’s mast.

Seabourn Ovation will be moved to its final dock at the shipyard, where interior work will continue. The ship debuts in May 2018; it will spend its maiden season in Europe, mainly sailing Northern Europe itineraries.

Ovation is a sister to Seabourn Encore, which debuted in early 2017. The twin ships are influenced by celebrities. Both were designed by Adam Tihany, have restaurants created by Thomas Keller, wellness programs by Dr. Andrew Weill and shows developed with Tim Rice. Staterooms on the 600-passenger ships are all suites with private balconies.
